Prof. (Dr.) Chandan Dasgupta
Prof. Chandan Dasgupta did his MBBS from North Bengal Medical College in 1985. He subsequently did his MD in Radiotherapy from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1988 and his DNB from the National Board of Examination in the same year.
He joined West Bengal Medical Education Service and was posted in various capacities as a Teacher in numerous Medical Colleges across West Bengal. He was Head of the Department of Radiotherapy at R. G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata from November 2018 to January 2022 during which he successfully organized the 32nd ICRO PG Teaching Course on Breast Cancer in 2019.
He subsequently became Head of the Department of Radiotherapy at Burdwan Medical College, Purba Bardhaman during which he helped organize the 5th AROI ESTRO GYN Teaching Course in 2022 at Kolkata. He later became the Joint Director of Medical Education, Department of Health and Family welfare, Government of West Bengal – a post he held till his passing.
Dr. Dasgupta was known as an accomplished teacher, an excellent speaker and had keen interest in organizing departmental academics for the PG students. He had numerous publications in peer reviewed journals. He was a Member of AROI, ICRO, IBS, IAPC and IMA.
He held various posts for the AROI West Bengal Chapter and was the past Vice President of the Chapter during the term 2019-2021.
He was also an amiable person with a quick wit and keen interest in reading and music. He taught numerous students throughout his career who will remember him for his guidance in shaping their future.
Unfortunately he passed away on the 10th of January, 2024 at his residence in Kolkata after battling Glioblastoma Multiforme for over an year. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
